| The Secret Life of Bee is a novel by Susan Monk Kidd and was published in 2002. A New York Times Bestseller, The Secret Life of Bees is a coming-of-age story about Lily Owens, a 14-year old girl who escapes from her home to live with three sisters who are beekeepers, May, June and August Boatwright. The sisters have an apiary where they are beekeepers. Lily becomes a beekeeper with them and also forms a relationship with another beekeeper, Zachary Taylor. The Secret Life of Bee deals with important racial issues in the United States, specifically the South. The Secret Life of Bees is a perfect novel for book clubs and was featured on Good Morning America’s “Read This!” Book Club. |
