BEE HIVE

Bee Hive

DESCRIPTION
Whether you are new to the beekeeping process, or just looking for a replacement hive, you can find the right hives for your apiary. A bee hive is used as a home for domesticated honey bees. A collection of hives is known as an apiary, and beekeepers are also known as apiarists. There are three main types of traditional bee hive. The tile bee hive is native to the Mediterranean, and can be used on its own, or stacked. Skeps area bee hive made out of grass or straw and are north western European in design. There is nothing built inside this bee hive, but the bees build their comb inside on their own. Bee gums, particular to the United States, are bee hives made from hollow trees. 75% of the beekeeping world uses the modern bee hive design, the Langstroth hive, which allows for easy disease and parasite inspection. It also allows for colonies to be split. A top-bar bee hive is another modern bee hive and is a lower-cost alternative to Langstroth bee hives. A top-bar bee hive will yield more wax and less honey, but still have most of the Langstroth efficient aspects.
