HONEY BEE

Honey Bee

DESCRIPTION
Honey bees represent a small portion of the population of bees. Every true honey bee produces and stores honey. Honey bees live in colonial nests made out of wax, which is secreted by the worker bees that live in the colony. Types of honey bees include the Common or European Honey Bee, also known as the Western Honey Bee, the Dwarf, or Eastern, Honey Bee and the Giant Honey Bee. A honey bee collects pollen in pollen baskets on its legs and also eats pollen as its main source of nutrition. The honey bee can be kept in artificial hives to farm honey and beeswax. Some honey bees, including the Dwarf Honey Bee, cannot penetrate human skin with its sting. The Giant Honey Bee is capable of stinging a human to death.
