| The bumblebee bat is the smallest mammal and the smallest species of bat in the world. It is about 35 mm long and only weights 2 grams—about the weight of a US dime. The bumblebee bat can be found in small parts of Thailand. The bumblebee bat has long wings and usually flies actively at dusk. The bumblebee bat eats insects, which it catches in flight. The bumblebee bat, which is reddish-brown and gray, has a pig-like snout and is often called Kitti’s hog-nosed bat, after the scientist who discovered them, Kitti Thonglongya. The bumblebee bat, which is among the eleven most endangered animals on the plant, lives in limestone hill caves in colonies of about 15 bats. |
